“JUDAH”

Roughly 10’ x 6’

I wanted to make a piece that represented the release of beauty into the Earth through music and other forms of creativity. The Hebrew name Judah (Yehuda) means “praise”. The horns coming out of the mouth represent that wild clamorous praise and a call to action. Judah's face is made of natural goose feathers; inspired by Psalm 91:4. Each feather has been individually trimmed, stained and set in place by hand.

Judah’s teeth are made organ pipes from the original pipe organ of UNC Chapel Hill in Hill Hall (circa 1929). Fun fact: the pipes still sound their notes if you blow on teeth! The mane is made of piano keys from five different disassembled pianos; some of which are one hundred years old.
